The Premier healthcare alliance was established by visionary hospital leaders in community hospitals who were devoted to caring for their patients. That is why Premier's core purpose is "To improve the health of communities."

These leaders understood that American healthcare is delivered through local, community-based hospitals like their own. However, as individual institutions and regional networks, these community hospitals could not keep pace with the spectrum of advances in the practice of medicine.
